Opening Act is performing ensemble composed of motivated and talented children grades 3 - 6.  In OA, ensemble members will learn and perfect song and dance numbers from musical theater repertoire to be performed at our annual Spotlight, as well as several performances throughout the community.

This two hours per week group has instruction in dance, voice, and acting.  OA meets on Saturday from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.  Membership in Opening Act is by audition.

Susan Alexander Thompson is a proud alumna of Singular Sensations and former director of Upbeat Unlimited.  She toured with the Educational Theatre Programs of Kaiser Permanente, was the national anthem singer for the Washington Capitals for two seasons, and competed in the Miss America pageant as Miss Maryland.  Susan choreographed two numbers for Singular Sensations and Upbeat Unlimited for our Spotlight 2011 program.

Michael Axler is a psychologist for Fairfax County Public Schools. He received his undergraduate training at the University of Rochester, and holds both a Master of Science in educational psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Michael also received his BA in music from the University of Rochester, during which time he studied vocal and piano performance at the Eastman School of Music. He has performed concert work at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and has served as music director and accompanist for numerous community and youth theater productions in New York.  Michael was Music Director for our recent production of Guys & Dolls.
